Our Private Tour Guests Get to See Angels Flight
but Do Not Get to Ride
Angels Flight is a remarkable tiny railroad that has moved people up and down Bunker Hill since 1901. True, the original location of the railway was developed in the late 1960s and the entire operation was moved nearby to continue its service. The two cars, Sinai and Olivet, save commuters a steep climb and descent from the lower downtown area to the top of a the busy financial district. For those who like numerical details the grade is 33% and runs 315 feet. Our TBT (throwback Thursday) vintage color photo is definitely mid-century (20th) and features the 3rd Street tunnel in dowtown Los Angeles (DTLA). Despite having transferred more passengers per mile than any other railroad the tiny railway has had its share of problems, both engineering and financial. Cleared for safety and ready to return to operation at this time money is the significant issue keeping Angels Flight closed. To remedy this a fundraiser has been organized on behalf of this historic feature of our city. On Thursday, November 5th (7-11pm) at the beautifully restored Million Dollar Theater in L.A.’s Broadway District, there will be a fascinating program featuring the classic noir film M by Joseph Losey in which Angels Flight is seen. There will also be a presentation by a local historian talking about Angels Flight through the years illustrated with rare photographs and film clips. You can be sure we will be prompting our private Los Angeles tour guests in town at that time to take advantage of this opportunity to learn from real historians about the early days of L.A. and this amazing piece of its story while helping to return to service the little railroad that could.

Do you love BBQ? Are you planning on a visit to Hollywood, maybe to watch a taping of the Jimmy Kimmel show? Then make sure you have tickets for today, Thursday or Friday for a chance to enjoy lunch from the super grill of celebrity chef Adam Perry Lang. Lunch is from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. with take away service from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Adam’s efforts will help support several local charities. Our guides are eager to plan their tours to arrive in Hollywood at lunch time. See you there!

Private Tour Aids AIDS Walk
What a surprise it was recently when our private Los Angeles tour guests were driving past the Playboy Mansion in Holmby Hills and stopped on the road by none other than Crystal Harris, Mrs. Hugh Hefner. She invited everyone over to the lemonade stand by the back driveway to her house where she and her playmate friends were raising money for the 2013 AIDS Walk coming up in a couple of days. Turns out Playboy Enterprises raised almost $17,000 for their efforts. And, the lemonade was quite good and refreshing on a hot October day. Our guests had a lot of pictures and autographs to show their family and friends when they got home.
A Private Tour of the Hollywood Walk of Fame
There are a whole lot of stars in Hollywood. Tomorrow there will be one more. Jennifer Lopez will be honored with the 2,500th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. We will certainly be bringing our private Los Angeles tour guests over by the W Hollywood hotel to witness a very deserving celebrity being honored with a ceremony that has so often been repeated since its beginning in 1960. But J-Lo is a true superstar who has made her mark in so many areas of entertainment and business. Her star ceremony will recognize specifically her contributions in the Recording category, one of the five stars that can be given to a performer (Film, Television, Live Performance and Radio being the others). She was the first woman to have both a number one album and top grossing film at the same time (2001, J.Lo and The Wedding Planner). With her wide ranging filmography and worldwide legion of music fans, her fashion designs, cosmetics and perfumes, her producing and performing in Spanish language and English speaking television, it is no wonder she was named the Most Powerful Celebrity by Forbes Magazine last year. Her contributions to charity are legion. Besides being the spokewoman for Boys & Girls Club of America she is a sponsor of the Lopez Family Foundation dedicated to improving health services to women and children around the world. If you cannot join us and our tour guests for the ceremony be sure to watch the event streamed live over the internet at the Walk of Fame website.
Why a Private Tour in Calabasas
We’ve written here about Dash and the Los Angeles Memorial Pet Cemetery and now we want to get you to Calabasas for the 7th Annual Calabasas Malibu Wine & Food Festival. Set aside either Friday June 21st or Saturday June 22nd for a very special evening. Held atop the Mercedes-Benz dealership you will enjoy the opportunity to drink local wine, beer and spirits as well as taste local food from dozens of participating wineries, breweries and restaurants. Too many fine businesses to list here so click this link to see for yourself all the fine choices and samples you will have available on either of the two evenings of the festival.
Visitors asking us for suggestions for their private Los Angeles tour will certainly hear us suggest heading up to Calabasas, perhaps exploring a Malibu canyon road and Mulholland Drive, and arriving at the festival in time for dinner.
Pumpkin Bread for Our Hollywood Tour Guests
The Monastery of the Angels is a Dominican cloister that has been in Hollywood since 1924. The nuns now occupy a 1947 Wallace Neff designed building on Carmen Drive in the Beachwood Canyon area of Hollywood.
This is just one of the many “off the beaten path” destinations we seek with our private Los Angeles tour guests. This particular location has an important architectural pedigree, beautiful gardens in an urban setting and, most important, a gift shop that sells divine (truly!) homemade pumpkin bread and candies. We are always mindful of keeping our guests from getting hungry (always plenty of snacks aboard our vehicles) but stopping for something extra special to eat or drink is just a part of our touring philosophy.
A Private Hollywood Tour Treat
Beginning tonight the Hollywood Highland Center again hosts its summer wine and jazz festival each Tuesday evening at 7pm. Through August you have a chance to drop in for some excellent and diverse jazz music starting tonight with the Pete Escovedo Latin Jazz Orchestra. With $2 parking, free jazz music and inexpensive wine (all proceeds go to Project Angel Food) why wouldn’t you make Tuesday night jazz a regular part of your summer schedule? Los Angeles offers so many wonderful activities days and nights throughout the summer but this particular event in the heart of Hollywood pleases the music loving crowd on many levels. Music, wine, a beautiful location and a wonderful charity to support — that’s why we will guide our private Los Angeles tour guests here as the evening begins to experience this musical event before we head over to the Sunset Strip and on to Beverly Hills.
Tonight at 7:30 at the Avalon in Hollywood, Seth Rogen and Lauren Miller will host a comedy and variety show so good that it will shake the shekels from your wallet and benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. Even if you can’t go be sure to visit the website (click the poster to the left) and donate generously.
The party will feature performances and appearances by Kevin Hart, Mindy Kaling, Seth Rogen, Nick Kroll, Bo Burnham, Ken Marino, John Mulaney, Justin Willman, Billy Eichner, Garfunkel & Oates, Sadie & The Blue Eyed Devils, plus many more special guests still to be announced!
If you have never visited the Avalon in Hollywood then know you are stepping back through an illustrious entertainment history begun in 1927 when it opened as the Hollywood Playhouse. Also once named the El Capitan Theater (before Disney got their hands on the Paramount Theater around the corner) and the Jerry Lewis Theater (for Jerry’s weekly television variety show), this is today a rocking nightclub where all the best people of Los Angeles show up to party!
We are hoping that our private Los Angeles tour guests will be eager to visit the club after their custom luxury tour around Hollywood and Beverly Hills especially if they go this evening to help out families suffering from the scourge of Alzheimer’s disease.
We here at Elite Adventure Tours would like to wish Clint Black a very happy birthday today. His melodious and meaningful songs have been moving us for many years and we really appreciate his artistry, his music and his voice. We recently learned that Clint supports the efforts to raise research money and awareness for Rett Syndrome, a little known developmental condition with dire outcomes. Please take a moment to wish Clint a happy birthday and then visit the Spending Time Ending Rett website to learn how you can help. Should you ever find yourself on a private luxury tour of Hollywood with us make sure we include in our sightseeing a visit to Clint’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
