DUDAMEL CONDUCTS TCHAIKOVSKY
Through March 13. Tchaikovsky held Shakespeare in the highest esteem. He even tried learning English so he could read the Bard in the original. As the result of his passion, Tchaikovsky composed three single-movement orchestral fantasies or overtures inspired by Shakespeare plays – Hamlet, The Tempest and Romeo and Juliet. At these performances each of these works are preceded by selections from the plays, with Orlando Bloom as Romeo, Anika Noni Rose as Juliet, Malcolm McDowell as Prospero, and Matthew Rhys as Hamlet. This great cast of celebrities, is a great addition to the performance. Celebs such as these are possibilities for star tours in Hollywood. This’ll allow you to get up close and personal with certain stars. Kate Burton serves as director, as well as host for the LA Phil LIVE broadcast on March 13, will be simulcast to movie theatres across the U.S. and Canada.
