Dance through the Window to City Hall

Photo of Los Angeles City Hall from the Music Center

As seen through Robert Graham's DANCE DOOR, the Los Angeles City Hall is perfectly framed as you look east down what will someday be the new Los Angeles Mall. Our guests love the Music Center fountain (perfect on a hot day) and this particular piece of public art never fails to fascinate. We love bringing our private luxury tour guests visiting Los Angeles and Hollywood to this area to visit the Music Center, the Disney Concert Hall and Our Lady of the Angels cathedral. Click the photo to learn more about custom private tours of Los Angeles city, neighborhoods and beach communities and many other exciting adventures with Elite Adventure Tours.

Doo Dah, Doo Dah!

The Pasadena Doo Dah Parade in action

Pasadena is a great city, well operated, major technical university, rocket scientists, historic homes, a magnificent bridge, oh, and that annual New Years Day parade that everyone watches on television before the football game.  But when it comes time to loosen its tie, unbutton its collar, slip into something more comfortable and untwist its knickers there is nothing more fun, irreverent and licentious then the annual Doo Dah Parade.

Saturday, April 28th
11:00 a.m.
Colorado Boulevard in East Pasadena

This year’s 35th Annual Doo Dah Parade promises the likes of Snotty Scotty & the Hankies, League of Steam, Conehead Rocket Sled, Hippie Cream, Easy Acres Chicken Sitters, Balkan Brass Band and Mile High Bed, the Army of Toy Soldiers, Mobile Cupcakes, the BBQ & Hibachi Marching Grill Team, Boo Boo Kitty, and the Billionaires.  Toss tortillas, look for hidden celebrities like Barry Gordon and Tim Roth, and be a part of the festivities as the paraders march by.  It’s cheap (FREE) and easy like the parade queen herself.  Sponsored by the Lightbringer Project, a worthy arts foundation, make it a point to join in the fun.  Search the internet for Doo Dah and visit their website for more or less information.  Elite Adventure Tours likes to bring it private luxury tours guests on a custom tour of Los Angeles to Pasadena to see what can be seen nowhere else.

Hello Hollywoodland!

Photograph of an entrance piller to what used to be Hollywoodland

Taking a private luxury tour group up to the Hollywood sign takes us past the old entrance pillars to Hollywoodland. Also at this location is Hollywoodland Realty where, back in the days when vacant plots of land were being sold to the new population of Hollywood, a bus would be waiting to take potential buyers up into the hills to appraise home sites. Before the bus there was a mule cart. Thank goodness for roads and the internal combustion engine. Even better, we drive a luxury conversion van with snacks, drinks, a widescreen video monitor and hot aromatherapy towels to keep everyone refreshed.

Unreal Estate

Cover of Unreal Estate by Michael GrossOur tour guides pride themselves on having interesting and complete stories and anecdotes with which to regale our luxury private tour guests wanting to see some of the great estates of Beverly Hills, Holmby Hills and Bel Air while visiting Los Angeles and Hollywood.  Michael Gross‘ wonderful book, Unreal Estate, tells the tales of a number of the homes we pass by as we investigate the neighborhoods.  We love to add these sources to our libraries even though so much information is available on the internet because great authors make it easier to retell the stories.  Sometimes we even bring the books along to share with our guests.  We will share our book discoveries here with you, too!

Our Lady of the Angels

Entry courtyard of Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral in Los Angeles

Just across the street from the Music Center (and looming over the Hollywood Freeway) in downtown Los Angeles is this exquisite modern cathedral constructed after the Northridge earthquake significantly damaged St. Vibiana's. This new home of the Catholic archdiocese is a structure we love to point out when we are touring downtown and we always suggest stopping to visit and see the interior architecture and artwork. The beauty of a private luxury tour is that we can do that. This photo is not one of our own but was provided by Christina Hahni, a good friend of Elite Adventure Tours.

The Nose Knows

Jimmy Durante's hand and nose prints at Grauman's Theater
Jimmy Durante not only memorialized his signature and handprint, but also took a nosedive into the wet cement in the forecourt of Sid Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood.  That was some Halloween back in 1945.  We really appreciate the occasional guest on one of our Elite Adventure Tours (EliteAdventureTours.com) private luxury tours of Hollywood who actually remembers Jimmy Durante.Jimmy Durante

Max Headroom at Wilt’s Old Abode

Renovation of Wilt Chamberlain's former home by Ron Howard

There is certainly a lot of headroom as you walk through Ron Howard's special Mulholland Drive home-away-from-home. Originally built by Wilt Chamberlain ("Wilt the Stilt" of Los Angeles Lakers fame) it overlooks the Hollywood Bowl from Mulholland Drive. This photo was taken during a private luxury tour of Hollywood with Elite Adventure Tours (EliteAdventureTours.com)

Picture This

Photo of park just below Hollywood signEveryone visiting Los Angeles and Hollywood brings a camera or at least a camera-equipped cell phone.  At Elite Adventure Tours we know and respect our guests and the photos they take.  However, we pride ourselves on grabbing especially great photos of ALL the guests (yes, dad will be in the pictures) and even working some digital magic on them when provided to our guests as part of their tour.  We’ll get the scenery and the people, sometimes together, sometimes not.  You will have wonderful memories to plaster on Facebook and to show your friends.

Yes, It’s Easy Being Green

Statue of Kermit the Frog at the entrance to the Henson Studios

Once the Chaplin Studio, later A&M Records and now the Henson Studios, Kermit the Frog stands watch in a costumed homage to Charlie Chaplin. This pass by the working studio is always a favorite for the kids enjoying a private luxury tour of Hollywood and Los Angeles with their family and Elite Adventure Tours.
