A staple in every prep’s wardrobe, Sperry Top-Sider has made its West Coast debut, settling in at the Westfield Century City just in time for spring. The classic American brand, best known for its Top-Sider boat shoe, creates footwear for people who are active in the outdoors. These shoes have a following that dates to 1935 when Paul Sperry invented the Authentic Original Sperry Top-Sider for sailors. Inspired by his dog’s ability to easily run across ice and snow, Sperry re-created the natural cross-hatching on a pup’s paws to produce rubber soles that would maximize traction and performance. Paired with specially treated leather to withstand water, hand-sewn construction and rawhide laces, the original Top-Sider’s new take on nautical-wear introduced a timeless style that is consistently emulated by other brands. This is soon to be my new replacement shoe store, it’s something worth checking out. Add this to your list of things to do while you tour LA. The Sperry Top-Sider brand has grown greatly in its 76 years, now offering a wider range of footwear—including dress shoes, sandals and boots—for men, women and children, as well as apparel and outdoor gear. At the Century City boutique, look for in-store exclusives such as a collaboration collection with Sea Bags, a company that makes eco-friendly totes from recycled sailcloth, and the Band of Outsiders for Sperry Top-Sider collection designed by Scott Sternberg.
