Lakers Fans Travel to Los Angeles from
All Over the World
There was a time when we would be surprised that our private Los Angeles tour guests from far, far away would be eager to arrange to have our tour guide drop them off at the Staples Center so they could watch the Los Angeles Lakers play basketball. Now we are quite used to making the arrangements for their tour and game even setting our guests up with last minute tickets. The Staples Center is also home to another NBA team (L.A. Clippers) as well as a WNBA team (the Sparks) and an NHL team (L.A. Kings). With three of those teams in their seasons right now the Staples Center is very busy with professional sports events. But that’s not all. There are marshall arts and boxing competitions, concerts and all sorts of crowd pleasing entertainments and activities hosted by the fabulous downtown sports arena. Even without an event the Staples Center is a wonderful sightseeing destination for our guests when we are exploring downtown Los Angeles.
The Venice Skatepark Thrills Our Tour Guests
With 16,000 square feet of slides, tubes and a grand pool, Xtreme skateboarders and wannabees can crank themselves up for some tubular moving here in Venice Beach. Vert riders are challenged as well as the street skaters who will find stair sets and rails, ledges and boxes. The crowds, including our private Los Angeles tour families, will stand by to applaud, oooh and ahhhh and squirm as the boarders make their moves and experience the occasional gnarly faceplant. The skatepark is situated between the boardwalk (food and drink) and the beach (sun, sand and surf) and is part of what is best about Venice Beach – always something to do and people to watch. Feel free to bring your board along on a custom tour with us and we will carve out some time for you do your thing.
Our Hollywood Tour Guests Want to
Ride Western Style
While we regularly tout our luxury tour vehicles and fancy European helicopters, swell yachts and even technomodern Segways as the best means to explore and enjoy a private Los Angeles tour, we should not neglect to mention that we can also arrange for our guests to go horseback riding with us. We can visit a stable up by the Hollywood Sign where a team heads over the mountain in the evening to watch the sunset and partake of margaritas on the other side. A stable in Burbank allows us to explore trails throughout Griffith Park in the heart of the city. If we travel a bit further afield into the Santa Monica Mountains there are trails and riding areas for all kinds of equine enthusiasts. The Pomona Fairplex nearby hosts horse shows throughout the year which is often the reason our guests are calling us. In town to watch horses they also have a strong urge to go riding like the Hollywood cowboys of history. And do not forget, we have a couple of historic horse racing venues worth visiting even outside the racing season.
Beverly Hills Is the Celebrity Homes Destination
Our Luxury Tour Guests Love
There is nothing like cruising the wide palm tree lined streets of Beverly Hills in a luxury tour vehicle to enjoy the well-deserved mansions earned by those who create the television programs, movies and music we so love. Since we look like we belong the neighbors take little notice of our private Los Angeles tour when we stop to photograph a home such as Simon Cowell‘s. Sure, there are myriad photographs of his stately house on the internet but when we include a photograph of the snappy Briton’s home in your tour photo album you will be featured in it. We visit celebrity homes and notable residences in Hollywood, Bel Air, Brentwood and Holmby Hills, too. If you want to venture to Venice Beach, Santa Monica and Malibu, we can show you stars’ homes throughout Los Angeles.
The W Hollywood Hotel – a Great Place to
Begin a Los Angeles Tour
With a subway just outside the main entrance that can get you quickly to downtown Los Angeles or to Universal Studios, the W Hollywood Hotel occupies one of the best locations in the area. The hotel is also directly across Hollywood Boulevard from the Pantages Theater (and the Frolic Room). An exciting walk along the Hollywood Walk of Fame connects the hotel to Capitol Records and Grauman’s Chinese Theater. Along the way are classic restaurants like Musso and Frank Grill as well as brand new nightclubs and bars, separated by many very interesting shops and boutiques. Many of our private Los Angeles tour guests arrange to stay here in part because of the central location. The rooftop pool area, called Wet, provides a nightclub atmosphere and amazing views all through the day, all through the year. The hotel restaurant, Delphine, is popular with the young Hollywood crowd. Yes, if you are looking for action and style in Hollywood, the W Hollywood is the place to stay.
Our Los Angeles Tour Groups Love Action Shots
With all respect to Robert Townsend and his groundbreaking film Hollywood Shuffle, we have mastered what we call the Hollywood Jump when we have playful families enjoying some active sightseeing in and around Los Angeles with us. Our private Los Angeles tour gets them up close to the Hollywood Sign and other familiar (and not so familiar) sights and destinations and instead of always taking stiff, posed photographs our guides encourage the guests to have some fun and “go for broke” as we photograph their tour experience. The photographs are all digital so they can easily delete them from their tour album at a later time. We do not think they do that. All the captured moments amount to great memories for our guests to share after their custom tour.
Our Los Angeles Tour Can Fly or
Drive to this Winery
The old buckboard near the landing spot for our luxury helicopter up in the Santa Monica Mountains above Malibu is a reminder of the conveyances of the past. Slow and uncomfortable. When we are heading up to the mountains for wine tasting and a private gourmet picnic lunch we would rather get there quickly and comfortably. We call this tour our Urban Escape because a helipad takeoff from the top of a downtown Los Angeles skyscraper quickly finds us up and away from our urban cityscape, over Hollywood and Beverly Hills and into the undeveloped forests and chaparral of the mountains where this beautiful winery spreads out. Amid the old movie relics placed around the property are vineyards and hiking trails to stretch our legs and breathe the warm mountain air before settling down to some serious wine tasting and lunch.
Private Tour Guests Love to Visit
the Griffith Observatory
Flying over the Griffith Observatory immediately has our private Los Angeles tour guests asking to circle back later in our tour vehicle to explore the science museum from inside. This is exactly what we hope to happen on our helicopter + ground combination tour of Los Angeles. The spectacular observatory, a landmark in Griffith Park since 1935, draws millions of guests each year to enjoy the recently renovated planetarium and galleries inside the building as well as to admire and photograph the 360° scenic views of Los Angeles and Hollywood (including the Hollywood Sign) from the walkways and parapets around the structure. Our guides will describe the movies and television shows made using the observatory as well as some of the history of the iconic structure and the great city park of which it is a part.
Our Night Tour of This Hollywood Block
Is Much Different Today
Even when it rains in Hollywood, which it seldom does (and generally at night), the streets are never this empty. Today the sidewalks are marked with the golden stars of great entertainers and other Walk of Fame notables and the stores are more likely to be nightclubs and restaurants. There are people out walking and traffic at all hours. You would need to time travel back to the 1940s to get this kind of quiet evening activity on Hollywood Boulevard near where Schwab’s Drugstore used to be. In a time before shopping malls and designer outlets, store after store lined this important boulevard of Los Angeles. Our private Los Angeles tour guests will walk this stretch of Hollywood to the pounding beat of club music and see the garish designs of tattoo parlors. No streetcars sail down the center road tracks any more. They have have been replaced by tour buses and Winnebagos. But there is still a certain elegance to Hollywood Boulevard, a kind of southern California urban magic that attracts visitors and draws locals for a fun evening out.
Fitting L.A. Tour Stop Today on a Private Tour
Veterans Day is today – a day to remember and honor the sacrifices made by American soldiers throughout our history. A number of cities and museums in our region will host ceremonies to honor the brave men and women who fought to protect our national interests. Among the museums are the Reagan and Nixon Presidential Libraries which we visit from time to time when our guests are interested in seeing them. However, one of the oldest (1889) and largest (127 acres) national cemeteries in the United States is right here, the Los Angeles National Cemetery. Open on Veterans Day for visitors from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (0800-1700 hours) this reverential and peaceful place is a perfect stopover on a custom private tour of Los Angeles. Among its honored dead are those who served from as far back as the Mexican-American War and Civil War all the way through Afghanistan. Fourteen Medal of Honor recipients are buried on the grounds. The chapel was renamed the Bob Hope Chapel on his 99th birthday to honor his lifelong contributions to veterans and active duty soldiers. Also, the cemetery is known for its annual February 12th celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s birth.
