Baseball Superstar Honored at Football Event
His resistance finally floundered and the inimitable Vin Scully agreed to ride as Grand Marshal in Wednesday’s Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena. The Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster has a glorious reputation recognized by baseball fans everywhere. Yet we are constantly surprised by how many of our private Los Angeles tour guests know of him, especially those from outside the U.S. This can’t just be the internet. Our foreign guests arrive with great curiosity and background knowledge about our American summertime sport. We take them by (or over in a helicopter) Dodger Stadium in Chavez Ravine and inevitably mention the great voice of the team (64 years and counting, longest in baseball). We are proud that Vin has finally accepted the honor of riding first in the parade. All he has to do is smile and wave. He can leave the play-by-play announcing to other voices.
