Russian Jet Parked at Los Angeles Airport
Sights to See on a Helicopter Tour of Los Angeles While Still on the Ground
We have been unable to positively identify this small Russian jet parked on the tarmac near our private Los Angeles tour helicopters. We are not very good at cars (as our readers know) but even worse with aircraft. Our blog research department examined hundreds of photographs of Russian jet aircraft before deciding that this might be an Aero L-39 training aircraft designed and built in the former Czechoslovakia for use in the Russian and 29 other air forces. Known as the “Albatros” the aircraft has also found use as a very fast and light ground fighter capable of operating from -4 to +8 gs (a measure of maneuverability). We could be photographing all the luxury corporate jets parked around us but we are so used to seeing them that it is the airplanes such as this Albatros that capture the attention of our camera lens. In fact, this could be a Hollywood film aircraft getting ready for its closeup. By the way, if you plan to travel in Russia and visit Sokol Airbase in Nizhny Novgorod (the home of MiG) you can arrange to fly in this Albatros or other MiG aircraft.
