Johnny Depp Was Here
Johnny Depp Pleases Our Private Tour Guests
Every private Los Angeles tour that we do has on their checklist a visit to Grauman’s Chinese Theater. The famous movie palace from 1927 is synonymous with Hollywood. The grand building looms over Hollywood Boulevard and draws crowds every single day. Our guides could spend the day talking about all of the Hollywood history associated with this theater from great movie premieres to Academy Award ceremonies and, naturally, about all of the movie stars and filmmakers who have left their marks (truly!) in cement squares making up the theater’s courtyard. One of the most popular prints belongs to Johnny Depp who left his mark back in 2005. Back in the earliest days the ceremony was conducted in place. That is, the wet cement was anywhere in the forecourt and that is where the star made their mark. Handprints, footprints and a signature at least. Some left more….a nose, a profile, a fist. As the courtyard filled up and the popularity of the ceremony increased a central location in front of the theater doorway was designated for placement of the wet cement. This made it easier for the honoree and the photographers and guests. Afterwards, when the cement had dried, it was moved to another location. What makes seeing Johnny Depp’s handprints at Grauman’s Chinese even more exciting is the fact that his Hollywood Walk of Fame star is nearby as are several Johnny Depp characters walking the sidewalk and ready to pose for photographs.
