Stairway to Dolby
Climbing to the Stars on a Private Los Angeles Tour
Walking into the entranceway of the Dolby Theatre our custom luxury tour guests sightseeing with us in Los Angeles are confronted with a giant red-tiled staircase leading from the ground level to the entrance of this magnificent Hollywood auditorium and sound stage. Yes, sound stage. When the theater was designed and constructed, originally as the Kodak Theater, besides being the best acoustics and technology for live theater and stage performance the architects and engineers involved created a space perfect for television filming and broadcasting. Why? This is Hollywood and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) planned to host the Academy Awards here for at least twenty years. The facility owners knew that numerous television award shows and other productions (American Idol finals, for instance) would find the Dolby Theatre perfect for their shows. Add in commercial production and other advertising filming and a considerable amount of revenue would be produced throughout the year at the venue. Concerts and live performances in addition to private company rentals contribute to the number of days the theater is in use. We are there almost every day as part of the Hollywood portion of a private Los Angeles tour. We like to make a big deal of walking between the columns that list every Best Picture award winner and then up the grand staircase to the theater entrance. As you can see it is a wonderful place to stop for a photograph.
