They are NOT Forgotten in Venice, CA
Many of our Los Angeles visitors want to explore the beach communities as well as Beverly Hills and Hollywood. Our private luxury tour guests when we are down on the shore can’t help but notice the block-long mural created by artist Peter Stewart in 1992 located on the east side of Pacific Avenue near Sunset Court in Venice.
Against a stark black background, Stewart’s You Are Not Forgotten mural presents the names of 2,273 soldiers from the Vietnam War still unaccounted for and missing in Southeast Asia.
In addition to the listing of names, the mural features a painting depicting five soldiers from each of America’s major Twentieth-Century conflicts, including a woman soldier from the Gulf War.
Tragically and inexcusably, the mural and wall itself has fallen into great disrepair over the past two decades. Many names are faded or even peeling off the mural. Some are now unreadable. Even worse, the mural is regularly vandalized. If there is ANY mural in town that deserves a prompt restoration, it’s this one.
