Remembering Huell Howser
We are a luxury tour company out of Los Angeles, California. Most of our guests engage us to show them Hollywood and see the sights and celebrity homes of Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Holmby Hills and Malibu. As such, we follow the lives of celebrities, even local ones. Too often lately an email has circulated through the company announcing the passing of another celebrity. Today it was Huell Howser.
Recently retired, Huell had a long-running show on KCET, the Los Angeles Public television station, called “California’s Gold.” He visited and explored places, people and activities around the state with a true “aw shucks” likeability and respect for everything. No matter what he pointed his cameras at you wanted to visit yourself. We kept one of his videos in each of our vehicles for those times — long drives, antsy children — when we would turn to our DVD library to find something to put up on the big screen while we were driving. The video we had was his visit to the Hollywood Sign. He had a number of productions exploring at places we generally go to which makes us think that we should perhaps expand our Huell Howser library. We will remember Huell Howser. Amazing!
