L.A. Back in the Day
Cars as Big as our Luxury Tour Van
Thanks again to a friend sending us the archive photograph of Los Angeles taken on Wilshire Boulevard in the Miracle Mile looking east toward downtown. Our private Los Angeles tour guests do not see this view with us. The photo above illustrates the period when this stretch of the great roadway (16 miles long) was the principal business district of the city and connected downtown with Santa Monica. There were department stores (Nordstrom, May Company, Desmond’s) and major retailers populating this area. Today several of those great buildings are museums occupied by LACMA and the Petersen Automotive Museum. Now also referred to as Museum Row the boulevard also features the A&D Museum (Architecture & Design), the Craft and Folk Art Museum and the Page Museum at the La Brea Tar Pits. Our custom tour of Los Angeles and Hollywood often brings us to the Miracle Mile but our photographs here are completely different.
