Mural Art and Deli Food at Canter’s in Los Angeles
Private Los Angeles Tour at a Single Mural
The seven panel mural along the side of Canter’s Deli in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles (near Hollywood) depicts more than 100 years of history and life of the Los Angeles Jewish community. Beginning in the left-most panel with the organizing of the first Jewish inhabitants in downtown Los Angeles (mid-1800s) the story proceeds to the right through the time the mural was painted (1985). Businesses, film, sports, social activism and the influence of Jewish life in southern California history are illustrated within vignettes on each panel. The artist, Art Mortimer, is a southern California native and is considered one of the fathers of the Los Angeles mural movement, many examples of which we have written about in other blog entries (“mural” posts). A number of our custom private tours throughout the year will be specifically designed to take our curious guests through the neighborhoods to visit notable and renowned murals. Let us know if you are interested and we will be happy to show you these large outdoor artworks.
