Thanksgiving @ the Laugh Factory

Jamie Masada

Owner Jamie Masada of The Laugh Factory provides a free Thanksgiving dinner and live comedy show every year to comedians, actors, writers and anyone else who is alone for the holidays. Each summer, he hosts a comedy camp where inner-city youths can learn how to write and perform standup from some of the biggest names in the business.

In addition to being one of the #1 things that I point out to our guests on a Hollywood Tour, the Laugh Factory is gem for exercising our laughter muscles! Thanksgiving Seatings are at 1, 3, 5 and 7 pm. Call 323-656-1336 x1 for reservations. 8001 Sunset Blvd. (323) 656-1336 x1

French Market / WEHO

dsc_03241

Have you ever been to a restaurant with great food and poor service? How about great service, but not so great food? I find it rare these days to get a great combination of both consistently. My wife and I were out to lunch with my cousin Angela and her boyfriend Kevin that are visiting from Connecticut, and we ate at French Quarter in West Hollywood. This fantastic restaurant that is surrounded by shops and boutiques was an incredible experience that helped us muddle through one of the first rainy days of October.

Our server Russell treated us like friends he had not seen in a long while and made sure we departed with hugs! The food was fantastic, and I never thought that outstanding “fish and chips” were hiding out n West Hollywood! So, if you are a local or just in town doing one of the best tours of Los Angeles, you simply must stop by the French Quarter @ 7985 Santa Monica Blvd. West Hollywood, 90046 / 323-654-0898

Brother Klaus Puck

puckPrior to a Clippers game, I was finally able to try Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill, at LA LIVE downtown, and loved every aspect of it. The restaurant is masterfully designed by Tony Chu, serving excellent food from chefs John Lechleidner and Dustin Lewandowski.

Wolfgang’s Bar & Grill showcases his signature comfort food with a variety of inventive dishes drawing inspiration from his renowned fine dining restaurants ranging in price to accommodate varying budgets. The restaurant offers creative salads, wood-oven baked pizzas, handmade pastas, enticing entrees and meats grilled over hard wood. If you are planning to tour Los Angeles, dining here will allow you to blend right in as a “Los Angelenos.” Also, if you happen to notice a family resemblance with the General Manager, Wolfgang’s brother Klaus Puck is partner and manager! 800 W Olympic Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90015 – (213) 748-9700

From the Vineyard to the Bar

dsc_03331Doing tours I have become spoiled with helicoptering into a a vineyard in Malibu for a wine tasting, but visting a great wine bar is a close second. Vertical Wine Bistro is in the heart of Old Town Pasadena, and should be added to your intinerary! This wine bar boasts over 400 wines from all over the globe. Their chef (the former chef of Opus Bar & Grill and Aubergine) has created a nice petite plates menu. This includes pan-seared Whitefish and ‘Date Poppers’ (Serrano ham, Gorgonzola and pickled Jalapenos). Up to 100 wines are available by the glass.

Outside of LA in neighboring Santa Barbara County, I have have conducted many California Wine Tours for VIP clients in addition to private tastings in LA combined with yacht and/or helicopter adventures. Yet, the ambiance of a classy wine bar in a hip part of Pasadena, is most definitely a great way to spend 2 hours. Vertical is located at: 70 N. Raymond Ave. Pasadena, CA 91103 / 626-795-3999

The Best Fish Taco in Ensenada

The Best Fish Taco in Ensenada. Yep. That is the name of the place. Do they live up to their name? Oh ya. Joseph, the owner comes from the wholesale fish business and he has this amazing creation down to a delicious science. bft Unlike most other fish taco places, a very light breading so they’re not too bready and filling. He’s serious about serving each taco fresh and hot right before your eyes.
Perhaps one of the coolest things about the LA County area, is the pride that certain restaurant owners take in turning a menu item that is found of hundreds of other restaurant menu’s and turning it into a passion driven culinary masterpiece! Located not too far from the land of “Hollywood tours” Swing by @ 1650 N. Hillhurst, LA CA 90027
