Private Tours Are For Kids, Too

We really appreciate that parents ask us about how much fun their children might have on a private tour of Los Angeles with us.  We love that they care about their interests as we drive around surrounded by so much movie history and technology.  What will interest a child in and around Hollywood?  Well, being just big kids ourselves (or in touch with our inner child), we know where to go to keep the young folks aboard our tours fascinated and engaged while also informing and captivating their parents.  One terrific location is the La Brea Tar Pits.  Green grass fields interrupted with stinky tar pits.  In the summer there are people down in the tar pits playing in the muck (really, scientists carefully removing fossils).  The Page Museum has reconstructed skeletons of some of the creatures that roamed the area long before movie stars did.  Giant sloths, saber-tooth cats, camels, mastodons, dire wolves…all sorts of monsters most folks do not associate with Los Angeles, at least not like they think of Frankenstein, Dracula and Wolfman.  We can also visit the Nickelodeon Studios and the Henson Studios, a celebrity dog park, the Venice Skate Park, Fern Gully in Griffith Park, the carousel in Griffith Park or on the Santa Monica Pier.  Depending on what the kids like there are all sorts of parks and trails, celebrity homes and hangouts that will interest them.  We make lots of stops for running around and climbing and know the best places to stop for treats and drinks.  Lunch where the waiters sing (Miceli’s) or the best hot dogs in Hollywood (Pink’s).  Believe us when we say the kids will not forget their custom tour of Los Angeles.  And the parents will have some really wonderful photographs of the kids loving L.A.

Setting Free the Tar Pit Mammoth

Photograph of La Brea Tar Pits

Mammoth Misadventure

A good friend visiting the La Brea Tar Pits after a ferocious windstorm whips Los Angeles grabbed this photograph of the parent mammoth, trapped in the tar right in front of her wailing baby and mate on the shore, who has now floated across the gaseous pool of water, petroleum and muck.  The famous outdoor diorama is disturbed (temporarily).  This is a good example of how sights our guests see on their private Los Angeles tour with us are not always the same.  From day to day little things are altered, sometimes even big things.  Buildings come and go and are changed with paint and decoration.  Business names change.  And wooly mammoths drag their anchors across a tar pit in a fierce wind.  It figures this would be near Hollywood — it’s so dramatic!

Giant Sloth and Little Guy

Child perched on the pedestal of the Giant Sloth sculpture at the La Brea tar pitsWho says little kids can’t enjoy a tour of Los Angeles and Hollywood?  Especially a private, luxury tour customized to please them.  Here we are at the La Brea tar pits, a large park in the middle of Los Angeles complete with sculptures of long extinct animals for Alex to climb on and have us take a photograph for mom and dad’s photo album.  Even better, a giant hill built around the George Page Museum .  You can roll down the hill before or after a visit to the museum to see the tar pit skeletons and more tar and gunk and smelly stuff than you can imagine.  Wax museums in Hollywood and tar pits in La Brea nearby – what could possibly be more fun?  Climbing on the trails up near the Hollywood sign?  Playing on the beach in Venice?  Riding the roller coaster over the water at the Santa Monica pier?  Sure, there’s lots of fun things to do and see for the very young when visiting Los Angeles.
