Our Private Tour Is Just Getting Started at Sunset
This fine group of ladies has been enjoying a private tour of Los Angeles that ranged from Hollywood to the beaches…so far. Exploring the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Grauman’s Chinese Theater was a thrill for them as was learning more about the earliest days of Hollywood when movie theaters were a brand new business enterprise. They were taken to see our old Hollywood film studios as well as more recent additions to film and production facilities in and around Hollywood. What they really loved were driving through the fancy neighborhoods where the celebrities reside. Beverly Hills, Holmby Hills, Brentwood, Malibu to name a few of the areas we drove through while offering descriptions and stories from the times of Charlie Chaplin up to Charlize Theron. We timed it right to be out on the coastline of Santa Monica Bay just as the sun was setting. Sunset photos are always loved by our guests. Admittedly they are beautiful times in Los Angeles. And next – the night time tour begins. The Sunset Strip will look completely different with all the neon and bright illumination luring us to hotels, restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Beverly Hills remains elegant with its pretty street lighting and Hollywood looks polished and inviting, too. Take a look at our Pinterest page to see some of the great photographs we have been getting lately during our tours. There are some fantastic tour photo albums out there with our guests.
An Early Helicopter Tour Means Calm Air and Sea in Malibu
Malibu lies like a ribbon along the top portion of Santa Monica Bay. For twenty-seven miles the city encompasses a narrow swath of beach and mountain. The bay’s shoreline runs from Point Dume down through Santa Monica, past Venice and Manhattan Beaches and all the way to Point Vicente on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Our private tour guests who wish to enjoy a luxury helicopter tour of Los Angeles really get to appreciate the scope and beauty of the coast along this metropolis. There are wide sandy beaches in some places, steep cliffsides in others. Surfing enthusiasts will probably already know the names of the point breaks and beaches beloved by the salt water athletes who come here from all over the world when the storm wells arrive. We always can play some of the better known surfing tunes to remind our guests. From our helicopter we can look from over the water to the coastline to see the magnificent beach mansions down below and the even larger homes built up on the ridges and in the canyons of the Santa Monica Mountains higher up. We generally fly up the coast from Long Beach or Marina del Rey (depending on our departure heliport) and then turn inland when we get to Pepperdine University so we get to see both sides of the narrow city of Malibu. The mornings are especially beautiful this time of year with the very clear cool air and calm seas.
Our Private Tour Knows the Way to Malibu
Sure there are some wrong turns one might make when getting to Malibu along the Pacific Coast Highway (“PCH”). Since our guides bring their private Los Angeles tour guests here regularly they know all the turns and can show off all 27 miles of scenic beauty along the coast. Malibu is a long, skinny city built along the Pacific Ocean and ascending up into the Santa Monica Mountains. There are beaches renowned in songs by great surfer bands like the Beach Boys and Honk as well as winding canyon roads leading up to huge estates and vineyards. There is Lake Malibou nestled up in the mountains above the sea. Most of our guests visiting here in Southern California, especially at this time of year as the rest of the nation slips into winter, are eager to see the beaches and shoreline. The Malibu Colony has its own lagoon and has been the home of Hollywood stars since the earliest days of the entertainment industry. They often had weekday homes in Beverly Hills and headed out to the shore for the weekend and holidays. Despite regular closures of PCH after landslides caused by occasional large storms the appeal of this beautiful coast and chaparral landscape on the rising slopes keeps the housing market tight and expensive, even exclusive, for the celebrity culture associated with Malibu.
Paraplane or Parasail Our Private Tour Guests Wonder
This strange bird that we encountered above PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) in Malibu is technically a PPC (powered parachute) or a paraplane in less abbreviated parlance. Seeing something strange in the air near the ocean is not exactly unusual anywhere in Southern California including the chic zip code of Malibu. These aircraft (?) are somewhat tricky to operate and require some practice in maneuvering a parachute and operating a small and noisy internal combustion engine. Much easier than this and an activity we can include as part of a private tour of Los Angeles (the adventure part of Elite Adventure Tours) is parasailing. This kind of flying is much easier and more passive. Just let the motorboat drag the parachute behind it and enjoy the cool breeze in your face and the extraordinary views of the Santa Monica Bay from Point Dume to Palos Verdes. Look out below you surfers, dolphins, sea lions, seals and whales. Hello squadron of pelicans sharing the air. Surrounded by sea gulls you might feel that you are in a scene from Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds and you are one of the sea gulls over Bodega Bay.
Beautiful Seaside College for Our Private Tour Guests to Visit
Many of our guests visiting Southern California and enjoying a private tour of Los Angeles will ask that we drive onto the campus when we get near Pepperdine University in Malibu. The school was founded by George Pepperdine who started Western Auto Supply Company with $5 in 1909. The original campus was in South Central Los Angeles. The school has occupied a steep hillside overlooking the Santa Monica Bay since 1972 and is certainly one of the most beautiful spots in California. There are times during the year when we have families with young people considering college in the Los Angeles area and are always pleased for the chance to drive up into the campus to show them what they will see every day on their way to class. The school offers undergraduate degrees in a considerable number of majors as well as graduate degrees in law, public policy, education, psychology and business administration. Pepperdine’s Christian ethos supports a strong spiritual element in its students’ university life and imparts a sense of service and responsibility to its graduates. When we tour with families visiting their children at Pepperdine we are always impressed with their knowledge and commitment to their studies. Even more, how much they love living in Malibu and being so close to Los Angeles.
Our Private Tour “Getaway” to a Malibu Winery
We call it Urban Escape. You would not think that so many people traveling to Los Angeles, 500 square miles of city for 5 million people, would then be eager to fly to a nearby oasis to sip fine wine and enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch. This is a very popular private Los Angeles tour for us all through the year and especially in the summer. We now have two different Malibu wineries with helicopter landing facilities so that we can quickly get to our destination and spend more time enjoying the pleasant surrounds. One of these wonderful wineries has a quiet backyard area for our guests to enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch and sample the fruit of the vines that grow on the hillsides. There is also a collection of old cars and farm equipment and a menagerie of very approachable beasts that make this agricultural oasis seem so far away from the nearby bustling metropolis of Los Angeles. Our newest landing zone for an Urban Escape adventure tour is a castle on a hill. This private estate can be home to our guests for a short period of time to enjoy whatever amenities they can dream of – a private chef cooked meal, entertainment, massages, swimming. There is always, of course, a chance to enjoy the wines of this Tuscany-style palace in the mountains where movie stars party and Hollywood frequently films. Enjoy a VIP luxury tour of very local vineyards here in Los Angeles in grand style and fly with us on an Urban Escape!
Helicopter Tour Is Cool Above Malibu
It’s beginning to look a lot like summer everywhere we fly in Los Angeles. The warming weather is especially enticing at the beach and there is no better beach to observe from our aerial tour than those up and down the coast that are a part of Malibu. From south to north there are 23 miles of coastline that are Malibu. The Malibu Colony and its lagoon are where many will seek the sea and catch up on rays and Vitamin D (oh so important) so they can look their very best in this season’s swimsuits and beach wear. A good point break here means lots of surfers. We remind our private Los Angeles tour passengers who are greatly enjoying the low flight over the bay (Santa Monica Bay) that the Malibu Colony was where early Hollywood stars had their beach homes (as current Hollywood stars still do) and that the drive from the studios to the beach took hours in the early part of the last century. Funny, there are days now when it takes hours to get from Hollywood to Malibu…even in a Ferrari. Those travel hours today can be productive though with a cellphone making business calls possible and routine even with the top down. Flipper’s agent does not want to be late to meet with his client.
Our Private Tour Flies from Malibu to Hollywood
We keep our fleet of luxury helicopters busy throughout the year because the weather is so regularly perfect for a low and slow flight around Los Angeles. Most of our private Los Angeles tour guests combine a helicopter tour with a ground tour. That’s a very good idea because what you see from the air can really inform what we visit later in the car. For instance, flying up the coast past Marina del Rey, Venice Beach to Santa Monica reveals well developed beach communities where Angelenos live and play. From Santa Monica up through Malibu the Coastal Range looms above the beach so development is severely limited. The City of Malibu has to stretch out along 21 miles of narrow coastline between the Santa Monica Bay and the mountains. There are magnificent homes up along the mountain ridges and into the many canyons. There are ranches and vineyards. But the busy part of the city is along the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH to us; Route 1 to map readers). From our helicopter we can really understand this geography. In the photograph above we are rising up above the coast and preparing to turn inland back to Beverly Hills and Hollywood. The Malibu Pier is visible and beyond that the Malibu Colony. The views from our aircraft are always extraordinary and our luxury tour guests return home with a very full photo album from both their flight around the city and the street level pictures we take when we double back later in the SUV.
Our Private Tour Takes to the Air to Get to the Winery
The drive from any of the fine hotels where our private Los Angeles tour guests stay up into the Santa Monica Mountains above Malibu is beautiful. We travel along the Pacific Coast Highway with the sights, sounds and ocean smells of the bay and then explore assorted canyon roads. The twists and turns reveal hidden ranches, celebrity homes and extraordinary views of Los Angeles and the Southern California Coast. It takes a while but we eventually arrive at one of many excellent Malibu wineries to enjoy some mouthwatering vintages. Or….we can skip the long drive and just fly to Malibu in one of our luxury helicopters. Right behind our favorite winery is a verdant pasture just perfect for a soft landing after the short and scenic flight. This means more time to enjoy a private tasting session with the professional staff of the winery. We also provide our guests with a gourmet picnic lunch to complement the wines we sample. Plus some samples will go home with our guests as a part of the tour. Wine, full stomachs and a tour album of fabulous aerial photographs and pictures of the happy, satisfied faces of our guests. Besides the Malibu wineries we can also fly or drive to wineries in the Santa Ynez Valley near Santa Barbara or head south from Los Angeles over to the Temecula wine region. We know our guests love wine as much as we do and we are always delighted to extend our knowledge for their private wine tour of Los Angeles.
Join a Fishing Charter or Just Have Breakfast on
Your Private L.A. Tour
We prefer early morning tours in the winter months when they are not too early. No matter what time the sun rises we can have our private Los Angeles tour guests somewhere on the coast to see the early risers take to the surf and the sea. On a recent visit up the coast to Malibu we got to the Malibu Pier early enough to see a fishing charter preparing to depart from the pier’s end. This great historic pier attracts surfers (a famous 3-point break) and fishermen and, of course, anyone loving beach culture. We like it mostly for the views, the air and the food. For a quick stop we visit the Malibu Farm Pier Café for a quality snack or stand up/walk around lunch. For something a bit more formal there is the Malibu Farm Restaurant at the foot of the long wooden structure. All foods here are organic and locally sourced according to Helene, the owner, and we can state that we are always very happy for an opportunity to eat at the Malibu Pier whenever we get a chance, sightseeing with our adventure seeking guests or just playing and hanging out by the sea with our own family and friends.
