Kevin Meaney Means Something to Our Private Tour
Comedy is very important when you live in a big city. Los Angeles celebrates comedy like no where else. We have major comedy clubs, like the Laugh Factory on Sunset Boulevard, where the very best comics, comedians and extraordinarily funny people draw crowds of laughter-seeking folks night after night. If traffic getting to the club gets you down then be happy because you have belly laughs coming. Think of it as aerobic psychotherapy. Expect heavy, fast breathing and tears as your fears and sadness dissipate into the Hollywood evening. But even funny people get sad when one of their own passes on and the comedy clubs acknowledge this. Kevin Meaney, amusing us for almost forty years, departed recently for a long-term gig in heaven. The Laugh Factory marquee became an epitaph and the stage an altar to honor Kevin’s fine work and the great memories we all have of him on late night television, sitcoms and, of course, on stage himself right here at the Laugh Factory. A Los Angeles private tour is generally an amusing affair, our guides all have comedy training and experience, but they recognize the fleeting presence of the best of the best who make it to Hollywood and will speak respectfully of all the greats as they show our guests where comedy is king at the most famous clubs in America that they pass by while sightseeing.
One Awesome Way to Tour Venice Beach
One should not be drinking and driving is the rule but there are exceptions. One exception, for instance, is you’re not exactly driving but rather pedaling. On the Barcycle. There are several advantages to a fun tour of Venice Beach bars on the Barcycle. You can enjoy a beer as you soak up the fantastic sea air and enjoy the local sights; pedaling means the calories in the beer are being worked off as fast as they are consumed; and, you get to meet some nice people without having to yell over loud music from a jukebox. Now we can do much the same thing on our private tour of Los Angeles but without all the physical effort. We can provide transportation and a vehicle in which to enjoy a fine class of wine or a heady pilsner (on a BYOB basis) as we drive from one fancy nightclub to another on an evening tour of the hotspots of the city. Yes, we know exactly where you will want to go for cocktails (or craft beer) and dancing from downtown Los Angeles to Hollywood, Beverly Hills and assorted beach communities. We even make it a point to know where the latest celebrity nightspot is (we just look for the paparazzi). The Barcycle is a lot of fun and you don’t have to dress up. Our suggestion is to spend a couple of hours on the Barcycle and follow that with a nighttime private tour with us.
What’s So Funny About a Comedy Sightseeing Tour of Los Angeles
As funny as our guides can be, and they are quite amusing, each of them with performing backgrounds (it’s Hollywood after all), the professionals who inhabit the stage at The Improv and the other big comedy clubs are even funnier. Way funnier. Think of our Elite Adventure Tours guides as warmup acts on the way to the clubs. We do club crawls in the evening for our private Los Angeles tour guests wanting a designated driver and comedy expert showing them the city and getting them safely and humorously between nightclubs with sightseeing along the way. If a club crawl is something our guests would prefer to do on their own we can still take them around to all the clubs in the daytime so they know where to go in the evening. Plus, we know the new and upcoming clubs, the farm teams for the majors, so they can catch the rising stars in their formative stages.
Comedy Is the Theme of This Private Tour of L.A.
Los Angeles can be considered a comedy capitol. We have wonderful and famous comedy clubs that arose from the nightclub era in the late ’60s and have flourished ever since. Future comedians always make their way to Los Angeles to play these clubs and await their opportunity to be invited onto late night talk shows and other venues as they make their way to stardom. One great club we pass by on the Sunset Strip near Hollywood is the Laugh Factory. Opened by Jamie Masada in 1979 this warm and welcoming venue (right next to Greenblatt’s Deli and Wine Shop) recalls to us that everyone who is anyone in the comedy world has been listed on the marquee. On this particular day we were reminded that Garry Shandling had just passed away and we really appreciated the sentiment. We spoke to our guests of how tight-knit the comedy community is and how much respect they hold for one another. The Laugh Factory is known for its Thanksgiving dinners for comedians, both local and visiting, to ensure the community is well fed and happy when most people are home with their families. Our private custom tour of Los Angeles allows our guests a chance to see the great comedy clubs and then make plans to enjoy the show while they are visiting Southern California.
A Private Tour at Night Club Destinations in Los Angeles
We do not limit our tour operations to daytime. If our guests on a private tour of Los Angeles want to see how the City of Angels parties after dark…way after dark…then that is when we are ready to begin exploring the club and bar scene. The guide is the designated driver and keeper of all the knowledge about where the best action is on any given evening (bands, hot DJs, parties). Our custom tour guests can just sit back and watch the neon lights pass by and allow the valets to open the doors for them when we arrive. We will be your paparazzi, too, and snap photos at each nightclub. One of our favorite stops for our discerning nightlife guests is 1OAK on the Sunset Strip in W. Hollywood. Almost two years old the New York style club is elegant with a capital “E”. Fine art, welcoming design, and an ambiance that draws Hollywood’s party animals to the scene. Dance, drink, get back in your luxury SUV and off we go to another special location from downtown L.A. (DTLA) to the beach with as many stops as our guests wish before closing time.
The Old Hollywood Movie Theater that Intrigued
Our Private Tour Guests
Sightseeing along Hollywood Boulevard always takes us past an old movie theater that faded away in the 80s and subsequently hosted all sorts of other businesses. The most recent, for the past 6 years, has been Supperclub L.A. A nightclub designed for this time in Hollywood history the club featured wild entertainment and the most contemporary music to dance away the night. The food was good, too. But alas, all things must pass and Supperclub L.A. will suspend operations tonight with a Halloween send off that should rival all the other wild and woolly parties happening over All Hallows Eve weekend. Imagine a frolicking crowd with fabulous costumes drinking and dancing in chaotic frenzy as though everything returns to boring order the next day. That’s what to expect with DJ Reflex pushing the beats and the cast and crew of Supperclub L.A. making sure their last night is remembered on all nights to come. For you party monsters here is a list of other haunting venues to consider for your weekend’s delight. Visitors to our fair city might enjoy an opportunity to join us for a private Dark Side Tour of Los Angeles so you can be creeped out before nightfall and ready to dance until your spirits (or those of past Angelenos) rise up to greet the dawn.
Rich Club History Amuses Our Private Tour Guests
Some of our private Los Angeles tour guests have actually heard of Ciro’s, the infamous Sunset Strip nightclub where the Golden Age and Rat Pack Hollywood stars drank, performed and drank some more. Ah, the jokes that could be heard at the tables must have been hilarious. Ciro’s then became The Comedy Store in 1972 and the jokes moved onto the stage as Mitzi and Sammy Shore created a showcase for young and upcoming comedians as well as comedy stars during what became a Golden Age of Standup Comedy. Where do you think Pauly Shore came from? The list of great performers is too long to recite but you can pretty much be assured than any comedian you have heard of from Johnny Carson to Adam Hunter has amused and delighted audiences in this W. Hollywood hotspot. Los Angeles is a funny town…funny peculiar and funny ha-ha…and offers several great comedy clubs to host the many funny people looking for crowds of laugh seekers. Get your laugh on and spend an evening at The Comedy Store.
Let the Music Bring Your Private Tour
to See This Landmark Nightclub
One of the best corners in all of Los Angeles is this one on Sunset Boulevard in W. Hollywood near Beverly Hills where the big red Whisky a Go-Go rock music club looms over the intersection. Since 1964 musicians and music lovers from all over the world have been gathering here for an evening of rock ‘n roll and dancing. Famous groups, soon to be famous groups and once famous groups perform on the stage that has been host to great music for more than 50 years. The days of Go Go Boots are long gone (but for how long will they stay gone?) but there remains a “dress to impress” atmosphere both from the performers and the patrons at “The Whisky“. Our private Los Angeles tour exploring the Sunset Strip makes a point of telling the story of music in Los Angeles from gangster days to yesterday and visiting the remaining clubs where our guests can themselves enjoy a night out on the town after their custom luxury tour of the city.
Our Private Tour Guests Delight in the Magic of the Magic Castle
Let us make this perfectly clear. The Magic Castle – a theater for the world’s greatest magicians, illusionists, prestidigitationists and mind-benders, a restaurant and a museum of magic – is a private club. Members only! Coat and tie formality, and a membership card, get you through the spooky incantation door into the building where dining, drinks and magical entertainment await. So how, ask our private Los Angeles tour guests, do we get to enjoy a evening at the Magic Castle? Well, if you are friends with a member you can enjoy a reservation for dinner and a show courtesy of your friend. Or, you can arrange to stay at the Magic Castle Hotel adjacent to the old 1909 mansion overlooking Hollywood. Accommodations include entrance to the night club. Or, you can purchase an Open Sesame 30-day trial membership at the door. Finally, you can just ask your hotel concierge. Concierges, as everyone knows, are truly magicians and they can do their own special hocus-pocus and produce a reservation for you. At the very least, let our tour guides show you around the building and tell you stories of magic, mystery and Hollywood dazzle about the castle. Abracadabra! Zim-salabim!
Private Tour Guests See 2 Hollywood Icons at One Time
We get so much positive feedback from our descriptions of Los Angeles mural art that we are delighted to have a new image to share today. David Flores has brought his “stained glass” mural painting style to the side of the iconic Sunset Strip music club The Viper Room. Honoring the club’s black and white color theme the artist refrains from color but still renders his familiar country music star, Johnny Cash, in a captivating way. It was back in December 1993 that Cash appeared at the club in person, not long after the tragic Halloween night death of River Phoenix just outside the club’s door which itself was only weeks after Johnny Depp and his partners opened The Viper Room. Cash’s appearance was at once a historic event but also a salve for the sadness still permeating the club since the loss of its friend. So much music history, so much Hollywood history in this one building. Be sure to ask your guide about it while on your private Los Angeles tour with us and take a look at some of our other mural blogs.
