An Animal Tour on Santa Catalina Island
We are a pet friendly luxury tour company (check out our “K9” tour) and find ourselves with animal lovers aboard our tour vehicles all the time. Taking our groups 25 miles offshore from Los Angeles to Catalina Island gives us other opportunties to enjoy animals and pets. For instance, the buffalo roaming the plains of the islands. The herd has been a feature of the island for almost 100 years. Brought over for the filming of a Zane Grey novel (he was a longtime resident of the island) they have remained ever since. The Catalina Island Conservancy maintains the herd at 150 head, a count determined to be healthy for both the animals and the island.
Catalina Island has settled history as long as that of Los Angeles, its neighbor city on the mainland. With that history comes the need for families to inter their beloved pets. An informal pet cemetery has arisen over all those years that is a regular stop for visitors hiking the island. With humor and love animal companions are memorialized in this plot of land.
We often see cetaceans (whales, dolphins, porpoises) and pinnipeds (seals, sea lions) as we travel back and forth to the island either on our low flying helicopter or by private yacht and you never know what might pop up as we enjoy the zipline ecotour of the island. For animal lovers we can offer a Catalina Island visit as a way to satisfy your interest.
